MARY ELLEN KIRKPATRICK
GROVE, Okla. - Mary Ellen Kirkpatrick, 81, of Grove, passed away May 28 , 2003
at her home after a lengthy illness. Mary Kirkpatrick was born J une 8, 1921
to Shea and Lillian Kirkpatrick in Wichita, Kan. She attend ed high school in
Kingman, Kan. She continued her education at Hutchins on Junior College and later
at the University of Kansas, and graduated " Cum Laude" with a B.A.
Degree in Liberal Arts, Major in Accounting from W ichita State University.
She began her career teaching in a rural elem entary school in Kingman County.
She went on to do private industry acc ounting and later public accounting in
Wichita from 1954 as a sole prac titioner until 1963 when joined by Mr. Jayde
Sprecker to form the partn ership of Kirkpatrick & Sprecker Certified Public
Accountants. She reti red as a partner in this company in August 1983. Ms. Kirkpatrick
was a m ember of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Americ
an Women's Society of Certified Public Accountants, Kansas Society of C ertified
Public Accountants, Wichita Chapter of Kansas Society of Certi fied Public Accountants
and the Kansas State Board of Accountancy for a t hree-year term in October of
1980 and served as chairman from September 1 981-1983. She was a member of St.
Thomas Aquinas in Wichita, until movi ng to Grove and becoming a member at St.
Elizabeth's Catholic Church. S he was active in the Wichita Area Girl Scout
Council from 1958-1983 and t he Girl Scouts of U.S.A. from 1970-1975. She received
many awards for h er services in the organization. The Wichita Professional Chapter
of Wo men in Communications, Inc. honored her with the 1974 Woman of Achievem
ent Award. Her parents preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 31, at St. Elizabeth's C atholic
Church. Rosary will be conducted at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 30, a t Worley-Luginbuel
Funeral Home, Grove. Father Alex Kennedy will offici ate. The interment will
be in the Olympus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers , donations may be made to Good
Shepherd Hospice, 2106 S. Main, Grove, O K 74344.
