James Kirkpatrick and Mary Stewart were married on 12 August 1794 in Orange Co., North Carolina.² Mary Stewart, daughter of James Stewart and Margaret Potts, was born on 11 November 1773 in North Carolina. She died on 22 October 1852 at the age of 78 in Sumner Co., Tennessee.

James Kirkpatrick and Mary Stewart had the following children:
