1969. Minnie May Kirkpatrick was born on 17 May 1882 in Brunswick, Chariton Co., Missouri. She died on 25 May 1958 at the age of 76 in Bakersfield, Kern Co., California.


Minnie May Kirkpatrick was born 17 May 1882 in Brunswick, Chariton Co., Missouri. She moved with the family about 1905 to Bakersfield, Kern County, California, and then to Taft, Kern County, California, south of Bakersfield, in 1909. In Taft, Minnie May met her future husband, Peter Cornelius. He had traveled to Bakersfield to visit his brother Henry. According to family tradition, "Henry told Pete to go out to Maricopa* and see the Lakeview Gusher, which was a spectacular sight. Peter made the trip by train and went on to Taft. . . It interested him, and he asked at Fred O'Brien's Shamrock Pool Hall where he might find a job. Tim sent him to the Heard & Painter store where Jim (Kirkpatrick) told him to take off his coat and get busy. Pete and Minnie May were married on 24 October 1911 in Bakersfield. He was born 23 October 1884 in Kaukauna, Outagamie County, Wisconsin.

The couple lived in Taft, where Pete went into partnership with Minnie May's brother Jim in a General Merchandise store. When the store was sold in 1920, Pete purchased a service station in Taft, which he operated until 1928, when he was forced to sell it because of ill health. In 1932 he bought a store, the California Market, in Taft, but his health continued to deteriorate and his son, Stanley, ran the store until Pete's death which occurred 6 October 1934. Minnie May died in Bakersfield on 25 May 1958.

There were two (2) children born of the marriage.

Minnie May Kirkpatrick and Peter Cornelius were married on 24 October 1911 in Bakersfield, Kern Co., California. Peter Cornelius was born on 23 October 1884 in Kaukauna, Outagamie Co., Wisconsin. He died on 6 October 1934 at the age of 49 in Bakersfield, Kern Co., California.
