From the Dawson County Herald, Lexington, Nebraska, June 9, 1960: H. A. Kirkpatrick dies unexpectedly on trip to Kansas. H. A. Kirkpatrick, who was born in a sod house near Lexington and lived all his life in this area, died unexpectedly June 5 in Dodge City, Kans. He and Mrs. Kirkpatrick had gone Wednesday to Hutchison, Kans. where they they unloaded their 1914 Dodge and drove it to Dodge City, Kans. on the the annual tour of the Regional Horseless Carriage organization. Friday night he was stricken suddenly ill and taken to a hospital where death occurred early Sunday. Funeral services were conducted in the First Presbyterian church in Lexington on Tuesday afternoon June 7, with Donn Jann church pastor, officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery. Mr. Kirkpatrick had engaged in various businesses in this section and operated a gravel contracting business for many years. In 1955 he retired from the active part of the business, but maintained his interests in the firm. Harold (Harley) A. Kirkpatrick, son of Joseph and Olive Kirkpatrick was born Dec. 30, 1889 in a sod house 14 miles northwest of Plum Creek, Neb., now the city of Lexington. He was baptized in 1907 into the Methodist church of which his grandfather Kirkpatrick had been a minister. He married Mayme Peterson in 1907 and to this union were born two sons, Russell and Stewart. Mrs. Kirkpatrick died in 1926 and he later married Jennie Frates. One son, Harold Edwin was born to this union. He is survived by his wife, three sons, Stewart of Omaha, Russell and Stewart of Lexington; sisters, Irene McCance of Fontana, Calif., Grace Briner of Brownville, Neb., and Fern Keyes of Denver; brother, Chauncey of Gothenburg; grandchildren Kathy and Nancy Kirkpatrick. Pallbearers were Roger Sage, Elmer Snowden, Jim Roberts, Eugene Michel, Jim O'Donnell, Vernon Welliver.

Harold A. "Harley" Kirkpatrick and Mary "Mayme" Peterson were married in 1907.718 Mary "Mayme" Peterson was born in 1885 in Kearney, Buffalo Co., Nebraska.719,720 She died in 1926 at the age of 41.718
