John Albert Kirkpatrick served in the Union Army in the Civil War. He enrolled 14 January 1864 and was assigned as a private to Company I, 33rd Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, and on 22 July 1865 transferred to the Company I, 11th Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered out with this regiment at Mobile Alabama, 4 September 1865. At the time of his enlistment John A. Kirkpatrick was a farmer, almost 18 years of age, standing 5 feet 10 inches, with blue eyes, light complexion, and light hair. There were ten (10) children born of the marriage. On the 1880 U. S. Census Albert is living at Dunleith, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois with his wife Josephine and children Laura, George, William, and Milton. Census of Mosinee, Marathon Co., Wisconsin, John Kirkpatrick appears with his wife Josephine and children Myrtle, Jennie, Josephine, Frederick and Marie. John is a farmer.
