He was married on 4 October 1870 at Augusta, Illinois, to Katie Bostick who was born 8 October 1849 in Indiana at Lawrence (some say Lawrence Port). Katie died 29 march 1911 in Missouri. She and her husband are both buried at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She died at or near Kansas City, Missouri while on a visit. John was a member of Company E, 50th Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. he was 5 feet 4½ inches tall, fair skin, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He enlisted January 1864 at Quincy, Illinois, and mustered out at Louisville, Kentucky. He engaged in a number of occupations after the war including well-digging and owning and managing a restaurant. There were five (5) children born of the marriage. John Mortimer Kirkpatrick and Katie Bostick were married on 4 October 1870 in Augusta, Hancock Co., Illinois.373 Katie Bostick was born on 8 October 1849 in Lawrence, Indiana. She died on 29 March 1911 at the age of 61 in Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri. She was buried in Fairlawn Cemetery, Stillwater, Payne Co., Oklahoma.
