James "Alford" Kirkpatrick was born in 1845 in Missouri.⁷⁴ In the book Civil War Veterans of Scott County Missouri, based on the 1890 Federal Enumeration, compiled by the Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society, page 3: Kirkpatrick, James A. (Confederate) Pvt. A MO Cav. 23 Sept. 1863 to May 1865.

On the 1870 U. S. Census of Tywappity, Scott Co., Missouri, James A. Kirkpatrick appears with his wife Isabell and children Ida and William. James is a farmer.

On the 1880 U. S. Census of Tywappity, Scott Co., Missouri, Alford appears with his wife Isabell and children Ida, James, F. Reid, Luther H. and Lilly May. Alford is a farmer.

Isabelle Russell was born in 1851 in Mississippi Co., Missouri.²¹⁹ She died on 26 February 1885 at the age of 34 in Scott Co., Missouri.¹⁶² Isabelle Kirkpatrick's death information stated that her last child was her eighth.
