Joe married a second time to Olive McCracken in Jefferson County, Iowa, 10 October 1882. Olive was born 28 January 1856 and died 26 January 1914. She was the daughter of Hiram and Dinah (Hadley) McCracken of Richland, Iowa. Joseph lists himself in the marriage papers as a farmer of Lee County, Iowa, near Baker. The couple, however, removed to Dawson County, Nebraska, probably in the early 1880's, and Joseph died there 6 January 1917. He and his wife were active in the Walnut Grove Methodist Church. Both are buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Lexington, Nebraska. Julia Russell Kirkpatrick, Kirkpatrick's first wife is buried in the McDowell Cemetery in Jefferson County, Iowa. Joseph's brother-in-law Hiram McCracken age 37 and single is also in the household. Joseph and Olive have been married 17 years. Olive is the mother of 5, 4 of whom are currently living.
